Gibber's Tobacco Education Programme goes from strength to strength.

19 05 2009

Gibber are currently touring the North East educating young people about ‘The Truth’ behind the tobacco industry.

Following the fantastic feedback we received during our pilot tour in Newcastle last year we have now received funding to delivering our tobacco education resource ‘The Truth’ region wide.

“The Gibber team are really excited about delivering tobacco education to young people across the North East. It’s fun, it’s fast and it’s full of factual information, which examines how the tobacco industry markets it’s products directly at young people” said Vicky Blackburn, Director of Gibber.

The tour is proving really popular with both teachers and pupils. Gill Hall, Head of Year at Manor College in Hartlepool said this about us;

“The team were so professional. Unbelievably early, self sufficient and very flexible to the demands of our setting and timetable. They really connected with the year group and last workshop was as inspirational as the first. Our pupils really enjoyed the day and I feel that many more will feel empowered to make healthy choices.”

Danny Rutta, Director of Public Health for Newcastle PCT said: “Considerable progress has been made to date to reduce the number of people smoking in the city and the work going on in schools across Newcastle is a key part of that.

“As well as providing support to young people wanting to quit smoking, by communicating with young people in a way that is both informative and fun we are working towards a long term goal to prevent young people from starting smoking at all”.
